Arash Nourinejad is a Danish lamp designer and architect. He graduated from the Royal Danish Academy of Fine Arts, School of architecture in 2007. The same year he created the website Anour.dk as a platform to showcase his portfolio, but it was not until 2012 that Arash got his first idea about the linear lamp, called the I model, which paved the way for the success of his company.

As the second part of the ongoing series about Danish Design, we have explored Arash’s world of lightning and design.

Danish design

I think like most, when talking about our design heritage, I refer to the 50s and 60s as the golden age of Danish Design. It is probably the most innovative period in my opinion – a disruption of the past values and ways. I have felt it was difficult for a newcomer to escape the heavy legacy of our predecessors. That was until the emergence of the LED technology. LED paved an entirely new direction within design which is still evolving and gave me a chance to rethink lighting in a way that was not possible in the past.

Design Philosophy

My ambition is always to create something everlasting. I believe that I can achieve that by removing excess details and noise and stay true to the pure expression of the material and function of the product. I enjoy working with materials like brass and copper that patinate and age gracefully. They have so many facets to them, so many stages of patination and colour. Using materials that are durable and age beautifully is an integral element in all my work.

Lamp Design

Ultimately, I aspire to achieve perfection in my work. Despite my extensive experience as a manufacturer and designer, I am constantly exploring new ways to refine and elevate our products and the customer experience. Like most of the great designers of the past, I find pleasure in refining the details of the product, so the joints become the ornaments of the design.

All our products are produced at our workshop in Copenhagen. I take great pride in our made to order approach, as it is very uncommon in our field and sets Anour apart from other lighting brands. This enables us both to produce custom pieces and develop new solutions rapidly.

Eyewear Design

I enjoy iconic and beautiful designs. I have always chosen a certain style of classic shaped glasses in different alterations through the years. In the past, I have also owned many “affordable” sunglasses that looked good at first glance but broke after just one season – this lack of quality really bugged me. Luckily, you get wiser with experience. Today, I value quality and comfort just as much as design.
